Swipe to Call or Message Contacts
A super easy way to start either calling or sending a text message to someone is to simply swipe. While you are in your contacts app, swipe to the right on a contact to call that person or swipe to the left to send them a message.
The Galaxy S4 comes with a built in IR Blaster, which enables you to use it as a remote control for you TV, and other home entertainment equipment. Go into your apps and open the WatchON app. This allows you to set up multiple devices you want to control with you phone.
The Floating Keyboard allows you to move the keyboard around the screen making it easier to multitask while typing. To enable this, tap and hold on the Settings button on the keyboard and select the icon that shows a keyboard with a plus sign.
If the Galaxy S4 is your first smartphone, or you are just looking for a less complicated home screen, Samsung offers an Easy Mode. To enable this, go to Settings, My Device, Home Screen Mode and select Easy Mode. This gives you a home screen that is much easier to find you way around with bigger icons and it also allows you to customize what icons show up.
Smart Stay is a feature that makes it so the phone screen will stay on as long as you are looking at it. No more having to tap on the screen every few seconds to keep it from turning off. To turn this on, go to Settings, My Device, Smart Screen and select Smart Stay.
Keep Track of Data Usage
If you have a data plan with a limited amount of data, this feature will definitely come in handy. Go to Settings, Connections, Data Usage to view how much data you have used, see what apps are using the most data, and even set a limit to how much data your phone can use.
A really cool feature Samsung put into the Galaxy S4 is the ability to have multiple windows open at the same time. Meaning you could watch a video on YouTube while taking notes or messaging someone. To do this tap and hold on the back button until you see a menu on the side of the screen pop up. Drag an app from the menu into the center of the screen and then drag another app next to the first and both apps will open. You can even resize the windows to have one app show more than another.
Flip Phone to Mute
Want a quick and easy way to silence your phone when someone is calling? Samsung has made it all you have to do is flip the phone screen down and it will quiet the ringing. To turn this on, go to Settings, My Device, Motions and Gestures, Motion, Mute/ Pause.
