iPhone 6 Tips and Tricks

Reachability

The most obvious new feature with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus is the bigger screens. Which for some can make using the phone with one hand that much more difficult. Luckily, Apple took this into consideration. Double-touching the home button will slide the screen down. Making the reach for the back button or apps at the top your home screen much easier to use.

120 fps or 240 fps

With the iPhone 5S, Apple introduced slo-mo video recording at 120 fps. With the iPhone 6 you now have 2 different speeds to choose from. Just tap on the fps icon at the bottom of the camera app and choose between 120 fps and 240 fps.

Voice and Video Messages in iMessage

Ever have something that would just be easier to say rather than text? Now you can. In iMessage, tap and hold the microphone icon say what you want. To send, simply slide your finger up and the message is on its way. Do the same with a video or photo. Tap and hold the camera icon and slide up for a photo and right for a video.

Third-Party Keyboards

A welcome feature for most users is the ability to enable third-party keyboards. To do so, download your desired keyboard app from the App Store. To enable the keyboard, go to Settings, General, Keyboard, Add New Keyboard. The new keyboard will appear here. Tap on it to enable it. The default keyboard will still be the Apple keyboard. To switch between the 2, tap on the globe icon while the keyboard is up.

‘Hey Siri’

An added feature in Siri is the ability to say ‘Hey Siri’ and proceed to ask her a question play some music or whatever you want, without having to touch your phone. Just go into Settings, General, Siri to enable. Although this feature only works if your phone is plugged in.

Guided Access

This feature is especially nice if you have kids that want to use your phone a lot. This limits access to only one app and you can control what buttons, if any, can be pressed and respond. To enable this, go to Settings, General, Accessibility, Guided Access.

Battery Usage

Apple has made it a lot easier to check which apps are using the most battery. In Settings, go to Usage and then Battery Usage. This will show you how long your phone has been running since it was last plugged in. It will also show which apps are draining the most battery.

Custom Vibration

Some people may or may not like the vibration option on their phones. But Apple has made it possible to create a custom vibration pattern as the default or even for individual contacts. In Settings, go to Sounds, Ringtone, Vibration, Create New Vibration. This will pull up a page that lets you tap out any beat you want as your vibration pattern.
